The Concussion Corner AcademyÂź Story

I founded The Concussion Corner AcademyÂź (CCA) after I suffered my own brain injury in 2013. During my recovery, I identified several gaps in the system. I experienced a unique dichotomy of being both doctor and patient undergoing up-to 14 hours of rehabilitation a week for 14 months. During that time, I learned all about loss, the importance of community, and the strength to push through in the areas that I was able to after my injury.

Since my concussion that has resulted in persistent symptoms, the healthcare community has greeted me with implicit trust across disciplines to promote thought leadership in the rehabilitative community in order to disseminate and instill compassionate care for concussion patients of today.

The goal has always been to promote healing, decrease suffering, increase support, and deliver it with kindness to an often mismanaged concussion patient population. CCA is devoted to a mission-driven purpose of supporting traditionally underserved patient communities and underfunded non-profit organizations in the brain injury sector. We believe by providing thoughtfully curated education, training, and support, one clinician at a time, we will serve many.

In my career and recovery, I’ve learned that education and a supportive inclusive community are a privilege. And with that in mind, our philosophy at CCA is Teach One. Serve Many.

Thank you for stopping by The Concussion Corner AcademyÂź. I look forward to inspiring you to be a brain injury champion in all realms of treatment, advocacy, and support.

Our Non-Profit Partnership

Similar to the origins of Concussion Corner AcademyÂź, the founders of Headway Foundation, Paige Decker, Josephine Pucci, and Danny Otto, have each lived and fought through concussion battles.

We chose our friends at Headway Foundation because our visions are aligned and we are both organizations focused on improving the lives of concussion patients of today. It can take a village and we want to support Headway Foundation’s program focusing on Awareness, Aid, and Advocacy with their #NewTough campaign.

Thank You!
"Thank you for inspiring me to be a better all around clinician. You encourage skills that have helped me grow in all aspects as a professional. Because of this experience I am ready to dive deep into the mTBI world and can't wait to take the next steps to learn more about other PT interventions/strategies for management."

Everyone Was Fantastic!
You've all really provided a solid foundation and desire to learn more and become a better clinician for me and for my community. I feel this is a really underserved area with sub-par treatments from many clinicians in our area and it's nice to be able to have a deeper understanding of what to do and how to help implement change. I feel like I have more contacts in my networking circle now and look forward to future collaborations or meeting them at future events!

Amazing resource for clinicians and patients!
"Dr. Schwartz was fantastic! EVERYTHING about this course was great! It's so insightful to see someone who has lived experience with concussions and can explain from that point of view, but can come at it from a clinical standpoint as well. The personalization is great. I can't explain how taking this class has invigorated me to be more involved and change the way I work with concussion patients. My current boss is very excited and helping to get our clinic involved in a concussion team to help patients. This can't have come at a better time with such amazing and in depth information to carry with me. I look forward to learning much more from her/the classes she puts in place!

Thank You So Much!
"This was such a great week with Dr. Herget. I've mostly only learnt from physicians regarding concussion so it was so great to hear more of the assessment and treatment from somebody so skilled in the area of Vestibular and Sport Rehabilitation. Better examination of eyes and understanding of the functional retraining related to this. Also the ability to both tease out the different systems and understand the overlapping nature of all of these on the symptoms being experienced. Thanks so much."

Amazing Course!
"There was no "one" piece of of information, but rather the comprehensive nature of the course. It covered a large majority of concussion-related issues with subject matter experts sharing information and answering questions. You can't put a finger on an amazing course like this and spotlight just one thing!"

Next Day Knowledge Translation!
"I thought the best part of this course is the design that allowed us to constantly implement what we learned. I feel that standard con-eds give you TONS of information in a weekend but you can only learn so much. This allowed me to process and learn vs binge and purge.I also appreciate the passion of all of the different faculty and that we had people from different professions, different parts of the concussion rehab and different experiences."

Dynamic Faculty!
"All of the faculty were so dynamic and I really appreciated each and every one of them! They each had their own teaching style that was so effective! I appreciated the follow ups after Sunday Sips and reminding us to be kind to ourselves learning the breadth of the knowledge that was carefully disseminated over the course of three months. Reiterating spaced repetition and hearing that over and over from Dr. Schwartz, along with her positivity and encouragement was highly motivating! Thank you to all!"
